From Passive Content to Active Practice
As the academic year gets underway, here are some quick tools that can help engage students on their learning journey and help shift learning from passive consumption to active engagement.
Practical Tools: Feedback and Collaboration
For quick, real-time engagement and feedback, we recommend:
Vevox provides quizzing software to check student knowledge. However, ensure quizzes ask people to use and apply information, not just recall it. For more information on Vevox, please see our guide: Vevox Help Guides
Padlet is an intuitive tool for encouraging student feedback, questions, and group working. Leveraging social interaction can grab the learner's attention and foster engagement. For more information visit our guide: Padlet | Staff | University of Warwick
Interactive Videos with H5P provides an excellent medium for applying segmentation by delivering information via video while embedding knowledge checks throughout. This approach primes learners ahead of the main session and encourages the active processing required for deep learning. For examples of how to use this, please see here: Interactive Video | H5P
