EchoVideo terminology

A

analytics: Data that shows how viewers interact with media, such as views, engagement, and participation.
AskEcho: AskEcho is an AI-powered tool in EchoVideo that is used to generate chapters, descriptions and tags within media.
ASR (Automatic Speech Recognition): Technology used to automatically generate captions and transcripts from recorded speech.

capture: A recording created by EchoVideo, whether automatically in a teaching room or manually using Universal Capture.
class: An individual teaching session within a section created automatically when a recording is scheduled. A class acts as a container for lecture recordings and presentations that students can access for a specific lecture, seminar, or teaching event. E.g. Lecture 5: Research Methods
class list: The homepage of a section that shows all your past and scheduled recordings for that module in chronological order. The Lecture Capture block in Moodle usually links to the class list.
collection: Collections are similar to playlists, allowing you to group related videos together, even if they are not associated with the same course or module. They are designed as collaborative spaces where users can view, upload, share, and work with media together.
course: A folder that represents a specific module or teaching category. A course contains sections that then represent particular occurrences of that module. E.g. MD10X

heatmap: A heatmap can be added to your recording and displays a graph along the timeline of a video. The heatmap highlights the peaks and troughs of engagement with the recording by showing the 30-second segments to have received the most views.

instructor: A user role that allows staff to create, manage, publish, and edit course recordings. When an Editing teacher in a Moodle course clicks on the Lecture Capture block, they are added as an Instructor to the corresponding section in EchoVideo.
interactive media: Interactive media in EchoVideo is a type of video or audio media that includes polling questions, allowing viewers to engage with the content.

Lecture Capture: Automated recording of lectures and seminars using in-room EchoVideo equipment. Lecture Capture is scheduled in advance of the event, often using central room booking data.
Library: Or Media Library. A user's personal storage area for recordings and uploaded content.
live stream: A real-time broadcast of a lecture or event.

media: Any video, audio recording, presentation, or uploaded content stored in EchoVideo.
media editor: The media editor is a tool within EchoVideo designed for video editing, offering tools to enhance or customise content. Tools include the trimming and tailing of media, managing audio and splitting into multiple segments.

presenter: The user listed in the timetable/room booking as delivering the lecture. The presenter will be added as a section instructor and become the owner of the recording. Note that 'presenter' is not a term used by EchoVideo but is commonly used at Warwick when scheduling captures.

Scheduler: A user responsible for creating, managing, and monitoring lecture capture schedules. Some departments have their own schedulers.
section: Sections belong to Courses. Typically a new section is created for each academic year's occurrence. They are named in the format Module code (Academic year). E.g. MD10X (2026/27)
spherical Video: Spherical Video, also known as 360° video, is a media format that captures a full 360° view of the recorded scene. It is created using specialised cameras.

Universal Capture (Personal): The desktop version of EchoVideo's Universal Capture software, installed on a personal or institution-managed computer. It enables instructors to record lectures, presentations, demonstrations, and other content using their screen, webcam, and microphone.
