Digital Learning Team

Meet the Digital Learning Team
The Digital Learning team comprises 4 functional areas - Educational Technology, Learning Design, Digital Learning Faculty Support, and the Management and Projects team - as well as cross-team working groups with a specific pedagogic focus and interest. We work alongside and consult with academics and departments to design courses and use multimedia and online learning tools to create educational experiences.

Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your role in the Digital Learning team
Hi, my name is Jesse Young, I'm the resident Motion Graphics Designer for the team - that means that I work on animated and static graphics, as well as all manner of audiovisual content to support the learning material we produce.
How did you come to work in DL? Have you always worked in this area?
Before this job I was working in a small marketing firm - nominally as a copywriter, but also using my motion graphics skills to make marketing materials. I was split between work that I didn't want to do, and work that I love but wasn't getting compensated for. Then I found this position, and the rest is history!
What kind of software do you specialise in?
Many of the programs that I use are within the Adobe suite - such as After Effects for animations, Illustrator and Photoshop for still visuals, and Audition and Premiere for general audio and video editing. I also use a program called Vyond to make quick and easy character animations!
How do you see the future of digital learning evolving?
At the time of writing this question inevitably leads to talk of AI - and honestly that scares me a little, because I largely associate that term with plagiarism, damage to the environment and general corporate greed. I think that we need to take great care with how we lay the foundation for this technology to be implemented if we want to see a brighter future in digital learning.
What’s your favourite part of working in Digital Learning or at Warwick?
I love the level of autonomy I have in shaping the visual identity of our learning materials, working with the subject matter experts to teach concepts in a way that is more accessible and fun.
