Meet the Digital Learning Team

The Digital Learning team comprises 4 functional areas - Educational Technology, Learning Design, Digital Learning Faculty Support, and the Management and Projects team - as well as cross-team working groups with a specific pedagogic focus and interest. We work alongside and consult with academics and departments to design courses and use multimedia and online learning tools to create educational experiences.

Please introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your role in the Digital Learning team

I joined Warwick almost 6 years ago and since then have been heavily involved in supporting the use of Moodle and EchoVideo, among other tools. I love problem-solving and working with academics and other technologists to look for solutions to their teaching and learning requirements. The pandemic forced us to do things differently and I enjoyed being involved in various projects supporting staff in adjusting their teaching methods.

How did you come to work in DL? Have you always worked in this area?

I fell into this area by accident really! I worked part-time as a research assistant for one of my university lecturers who was interested in digital learning. I then took a 3-month role supporting the VLE which kept getting extended and I progressed from there.

What’s one thing you wish more people knew about the work your team does?

We don't just help fix things when they're broken. We can support you in finding the best way to achieve your teaching goals using technology. We can help you identify the right tools to use and learn how to use them efficiently and in a way that meets your and your students' needs.

How do you see the future of digital learning evolving, and what excites you most about it?

I'm keen to see how the use of AI in education develops. People are fearful of it at the moment, but as well as risks, it brings opportunity. I've certainly found it helpful in my work and it's given me more time to spend doing things that a computer can't do - yet! It's not going anywhere so we need to learn how to embrace it - as individuals, as an institution and as a sector.
