Mel Carty, Internal Communications Officer
“It’s a beautiful, ever developing campus and there’s always lots of things going on that you can go to/get involved in.”

A little about me

I have a Media Practices degree from the University of Bedfordshire and a City and Guilds in Journalism and Media Techniques. I worked as a Web Content Officer for Warwickshire Police for eight years and project managed their Intranet upgrade during this time. I also spent 18 months on secondment as a Public Confidence Communications Officer and, in partnership with The Courier and Warwick District Council, produced ‘Crime is Falling’ feature articles.

You might be surprised to know…

I was a dummy contestant on Telly Addicts and have met Noel Edmonds, Piers Morgan and Ruth Langsford.

A bit about my role

My role involves managing Warwick’s internal communication channels. This includes promoting staff and student messaging on the digital screens across campus, tweeting content from our staff focused twitter account, @warwickinsite, responding to requests received via our email channels, and collating our weekly online staff newsletter when necessary.

The best thing about working in MarComms at Warwick is…

It’s a friendly team comprising of several specialist areas. This makes it an interesting department to work in.

I applied for my role in MarComms at Warwick because...

I’d wanted to work for Warwick for a while but was waiting for the right opportunity to present itself. I was lucky enough to have a brief insight into Warwick’s MarComms team prior to applying for this role and was impressed by the energy, creativity and commitment.

Working at Warwick feels like…

Initially, ‘I’m never going to find my way around University House never mind the whole campus!’ You do though, quite quickly. It’s a beautiful, ever developing campus and there’s always lots of things going on that you can go to/get involved in.
