“It is a very busy, diverse and dynamic team. You can find yourself getting involved in all sorts or projects you never expected to."

A little about me

I started off at the Lanchester Polytechnic (now Coventry University) studying for my Art Foundation Course. I worked in various roles and organisations before coming to temp in Warwick Business School for a week - that was nearly 30 years ago! I have been in many roles here over the years, finally deciding that Events was where I wanted to be.

You might be surprised to know…

Probably that I went to Art College – nowadays I’m very much about the detail (especially data).

A bit about my role

The University Events Team are responsible for organising any externally-facing events for the University – which in reality means events to enhance the University’s reputation. This can be anything from visits to the University by the Royal Family and government ministers, to events enabling students receiving scholarships to meet donors, dissemination events for University research projects and our latest project which involves organising events around the Big Screen in the Piazza.

The best thing about working in MarComms at Warwick is…

It is a very busy, diverse and dynamic team. You can find yourself getting involved in all sorts of projects you never expected to.

Having worked at Warwick for a long time what still makes you excited to come into work?

There seems to be a bit of a pattern of people working here – many people end up staying forever! That’s probably because although working here can be pretty full-on, we still have fun. In my role I need to be flexible, working out of hours and sometimes at short notice – the University is great at enabling my working hours to be flexible to compensate. Also the added extras – the Arts Centre, Warwick Sport – I might not use them all the time but having them here is great.

How has your role changed since you started?

I’ve been in this particular role for a few years now but things change all the time. New events are introduced and new ways of working are suggested. Since the Events Team has moved into the Marketing and Communications Team we are, not unsurprisingly, working in a much more ‘Marketing’ way.
