Transformation rules for form datasets
Apply transformation rules to amend the data in your table-based or summary dataset. To use transformation rules, you must have already created a dataset for your form.
In this article:
Create a transformation rule
- Go to the form you wish to edit.
- Go to Edit > Edit formsbuilder page.
- Select Add/Edit Datasets.

Select the edit button for the relevant dataset:
- Select Add Transformation Rules.
- Select the field in the Rule For drop-down list you wish to apply the rule to.

Choose the rule to apply from the Rule Type drop-down list:
- REPLACE – replace Source Value with the value of Display in Report As
- APPEND – insert the value of Display in Report As after Source Value
- PREPEND – insert the value of Display in Report As before Source Value
For example, say you want to replace the qualitative rating ‘Very satisfied’ – the highest rating on a scale of four possible ratings – with the number 4. You would choose REPLACE.
- In the Source Value box, enter the value of the submission data that you wish to apply the rule to – for example, Very satisfied.
- In the Display In Report As box, enter the value you wish to replace, append to or prepend to Source Value depending on the Rule Type you chose – for example, 4.
- Select Save Rule.
- Select Save Dataset.

Preview your dataset. You can see the original values transformed in the table, depending on the Rule Type you chose:
Edit or delete a transformation rule
- Go to the form you wish to edit.
- Go to Edit > Edit formsbuilder page.

Select Add/Edit Datasets.
- Select Transformation Rules.
- Select Edit or Delete in the popover window for the particular rule.
- If you selected Edit, make the necessary changes to your rule and save it.
