Restrict parts of your site to individuals or groups

To restrict permissions for a section of your site, you need admin permissions for that particular section.

To control permissions for sections or a whole site, for multiple people, we recommend that you first use web groups to create your custom group – for example, architecture-site-admins. You can assign permissions to the group in SiteBuilder and maintain group membership with the WebGroups system. Changes to group membership cascade everywhere, which means you don't have to update permissions for all related pages on your site when, for example, a staff member changes roles or a new starter joins.

Note there are many predefined groups you can use to assign permissions. For example, all students or staff in your department, any University member, staff only, alumni and so on.

  1. Browse to the topmost page in the section where you wish to restrict access.
  2. Go to Edit > Edit page permissions. The Edit permissions screen appears with current permissions at the right:

  3. Add permissions for the groups and individuals who should have access to the section.
  4. Remove permissions from any groups or individuals who should not have access to the section.
  5. When you have finished adding and removing permissions, select Done.
