Staff for Fair Parking Charges

It's too much...

Rising costs of living are hitting staff and their families hard.

Increases in car parking costs are an additional strain on colleague's finances.

What's happening?

Staff parking charges increased on 1st October 2023. This included a 20% increase in the daily parking tariff for staff (and a 40% increase in the daily electric vehicle tariff). That means staff who park on campus three or more days a week will now pay a minimum of £9 per week.

The University no longer offers a discounted rate for part-time staff, and discontinued the reduced weekly charge for staff on grades 1 & 2.

We want a fair deal for all staff, including a reversal of this year's price increases and reinstatement of a discounted rate for lower paid and part-time staff.

Act now in support of fair parking charges:

1. Tell us how the changes impact you

Understanding the impact these car parking changes have on colleagues helps us to represent you. Complete the short form here.

"Being asked to pay almost 3 times what we were paying when it was all pro-rated with our wages – only a few short years ago, is a huge difference, and this coming after the charges only went up in July from £20 per month to £30!" - Warwick staff member

2. Support our motion to the Assembly

We are calling on the University to implement a fairer system for car parking, including a reversal of this year's price increases, a 3-year freeze on price increases, and a discounted rate for lower-paid and part-time staff.

You can read the full motion here and add your name to the call for an Assembly meeting to discuss and vote on it.

3. Send a message to the University

We want the University to understand the impact these changes are having on individual staff, and the strength of feeling across our staff team.

Use our template form to send a message to the University's Head of Transport Systems & Operations, asking for a fairer system for car parking.

Join a union

There are three recognised trade unions at Warwick: UNISON, UCU, and Unite.

The more staff who are members of a trade union, the stronger our bargaining power is and the better deal we can negotiate for staff.
