Gas Chromatography – Time-of-Flight – Mass Spectrometry

Overview:

GC-TOF-MS

Gas Chromatography - Time-of-Flight - Mass Spectrometry (GC-TOF-MS) is a highly sensitive technique able to separate complex mixtures and identify the compounds present, quantitatively and qualitatively, from a wide range of sample types.

The Biomedical Sensors Laboratory has a Markes BenchTOF HD and Thermo GC combined with a Markes Centri auto sampler platform for headspace analysis using thermal desorption (TD) tubes, or direct injection of headspace.

The BenchTOF provides high levels of sensitivity with full spectral information, ideal for trace level analysis of compounds. The Centri platform has capability for 50 thermal desorption tubes, an additional temperature-controlled tray for analysis directly from sample vials, and an integrated heated agitator. Tube spiking can also be performed by the system for the addition of standards to TD tubes.

Features:

  • Trace level analysis of compounds with high sensitivity and selectivity
  • Targeted and ‘unknowns’ analysis
  • High-definition spectra
  • Integrated NIST list for identification
  • High throughput integration using Centri autosampler
  • Ability to extract and enrich volatile organic compounds (VOC)s for a wide range of sample types
  • Analysis of samples using TD tubes or direct headspace injection.

Applications:

Analysis of clinical samples including urine, breath, and stool; environmental monitoring; food and nutrition; agricultural; fragrances
