Profile
I am currently a PhD candidate at Warwick Business School working on the topic of multidisciplinary collaborative work in complex settings under the supervision of Davide Nicolini and Hari Tsoukas.
My research is based on in-depth qualitative case studies and is informed by practice theory. In general terms, it analyses how symbolic, material and discursive elements facilitate or impede the joint work of professionals from different specialisations. The work is empirically grounded in a detailed examination of the collaborative practices involved in the development of new products in complex environments.
For a taste of my academic work, please see my most recent paper forthcoming on the Journal of Management Inquiry: Recovering Materiality in Institutional Work: Prizes as an Assemblage of Human and Material Entities (http://jmi.sagepub.com/content/early/2014/08/22/1056492614546221.abstract)
Research Interests
My research interests fall under two main areas. The first is how, in the face of novelty, knowledge integration is accomplished at a practice level and how it is nested in broader structures. This interest relates to issues of professional expertise, cross-functional work, organisational boundaries and coordination and corresponds the core of my doctoral research.
In addition, I cultivate a parallel interest in the diffusion/translation of ideas: a theme situated at the crossroads of institutionalist scholarship and studies on innovation and the circulation of knowledge. I have developed a study on the strategies used by different actors to jointly create and support the legitimacy of new ideas in the Italian public sector and another that explores the "consumption" of management knowledge by a population of adopting organisations in this field.
