PROGRAMME DATES: Tuesday 18 July - Friday 28 July 2023 (please also see compulsory training dates below)

INTRODUCTION

The Pre-University Summer School (PRESS) is a 10-night residential programme for 15-17 year olds, who wish to experience what it is like to study at undergraduate level at a top UK university. We offer a choice of three courses, A Taste of Economics and Finance, A Taste of Social Sciences, A Taste of Science and Engineering. Alongside their academic pathway students also undertake skills and development sessions and experience a busy wraparound social programme including a welcome BBQ, team-building evet, bowling, day trips to Oxford and London including a West End show. It is a really exciting programme, and we try to make sure that the students have a brilliant student experience during their time with us!

We appoint a team of Student Ambassadors and two Senior Student Ambassadors to support the programme. The Ambassadors play a very important role because they help us meet our legal duty to safeguard these students while they are on the programme; they create a welcoming and inclusive environment and encourage active participation in all elements of the programme; they enhance the student experience by sharing their own experiences of applying to university and student life.

The Student Ambassadors and Senior Student Ambassadors are required to stay overnight in accommodation with the students for the duration of the programme, so on campus accommodation in Halls of Residence is provided as part of the remuneration package. The 10-night programme is fully catered and this is also included for ambassadors. Accommodation is also provided the night before the programme begins (Monday 18 July).

DBS

This role requires a DBS check due to the age of the students attending the programme (15-17 year olds) and the nature of contact the Ambassadors will have with the students (direct and unsupervised).

TRAINING

There will be two training days for the programme which applicants must be able to attend, training will take place on the following dates and is paid in addition:

  • Wednesday 12 July 2023 (online)
  • Monday 17 July 2023 (Face to face)

You can find out more about the the Pre-University Summer School here.

HOURS OF WORK

You will be an integral part of the exciting 10 day programme and will need to be available for the full duration of the programme, including overnight (more details in the job description) and for training days. This is an intensive programme which will include some long days when trips are taking place and a couple of nights on-call.

RATE OF PAY

Student Ambassadors will receive a minimum payment of £1200 (£11.28 per hour plus £1.36 holiday pay) for the programme. The exact payment will depend on additional duties outside of core hours.

Senior Student Ambassadors will receive a minimum payment of £1500 (£11.69 per hour plus £1.41 holiday pay) for the programme. The exact payment will depend on additional duties outside of core hours.

Additional benefits include all meals and overnight accommodation for 11 nights.

OUR ROLES
