Biography

Diego Pajarito is a Research Fellow at the Institute for Global Sustainable Development. He holds a PhD in Geoinformatics obtained as a Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellow within a joint European program between the University of Münster (Germany), Universitat Jaume I (Spain) and Universidade Nova (Portugal). His research focuses on the areas of big geodata analytics (mainly open and user-generated), location-based services and serious games. He has an MSc degree in Information and Communication Sciences as well as a Master degree in GIS in addition to his engineering degree in Cadaster and Geodesy.

Diego has worked as a researcher and data scientist for the Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC) in 2019 and Universitat Jaume I from 2015 to 2018. In the former, he conducted his PhD thesis (Mobile services for green living) where he analysed how mobile geo-services serve to encourage sustainable transport. In the last years, he had supported the adoption of the Integrated Geospatial Framework (IGIF) as a consultant for the World Bank and the Government of Colombia. His teaching experience covers fields such as urban analytics, big data, geospatial Analysis and spatial databases. Prior this, from 2003 to 2015, Diego was involved in projects for the adoption of geospatial technologies, web and mobile platforms at Colombia’s mapping and environmental agencies, the Ministries of Agriculture and Justice, among other organisations.

Currently, Diego is working as a Research Fellow on the interdisciplinary project Waterproofing Data: Engaging Stakeholders in Sustainable Flood Risk Governance for Urban Resilience and an associated UKRI GCRF Global Research Translation Award aiming to enhance flood resilience in two different communities in São Paulo and Rio Branco (Acre), in Brazil.
