AIPI Summer School 'Corpo a Corpo' – 16-19 September, 2025

Poster for Corpo a Corpo Summer School

From Dante’s infernal bodies to contemporary narratives of identity, illness, and migration, the body has always stood at the centre of Italian culture. Corpo a Corpo is the 5th AIPI Summer School, a four-day international programme that will explore the multiple ways in which corporeality has been imagined, represented, and contested across time and media.

Hosted at the Warwick in Venice Centre in the historic Palazzo Giustinian Lolin, the Summer School brings together doctoral researchers, early-career scholars, and established academics for an intensive and collaborative exchange. Participants will engage with lectures, workshops, poster presentations, and roundtable discussions that trace the evolving representation of the body in literature, cinema, comics, and the visual arts.

Keynote lectures will be delivered by Jennifer Burns (University of Warwick), Annalisa Perrotta (Università Sapienza di Roma), Angela Fabris (Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt), Francesco Casales (Università di Torino), Andrea Torre (Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa), and Fabio Camilletti (University of Warwick). Complementing these are workshops structured around three thematic clusters: the dialectic between conforming and non-conforming bodies; the intersections of body and science; and the tension between public and private bodies. These perspectives provide a framework for interdisciplinary dialogue, encouraging participants to think across historical periods and artistic media, and to reflect critically on how embodied narratives shape cultural, social, and political identities. The programme will conclude with a roundtable featuring comics artists Dario Sostegni and Marco Libardi from the cultural association Hamelin.

Corpo a Corpo is organised by Gennaro Ambrosino (University of Warwick), Michele Baldaro (Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia / Alpen-Adria Universität Klagenfurt), Stefano Dilorenzo (Università di Modena-Reggio Emilia), Enrica Leydi (University of Warwick), and Silvia Vari (University of Warwick), with the support of the Warwick Humanities Research Centre, the Society for Italian Studies, and Warwick’s School of Modern Languages and Cultures.
