Exclusive interview with alumnus and Lonely Planet co-founder, Tony Wheeler

Tony Wheeler - co-founder of the Lonely Planet was one of the first cohort of students to graduate from University of Warwick 59 years ago.

Along with his wife, Maureen, he recently gifted a generous donation to fully fund a new series of four PhD scholarships, which will focus on the history of travel writing and will run for five years.

We recently interviewed Tony, described by the New York Times as ‘the patron saint of backpackers and adventure enthusiasts’, about his time at Warwick, his global travels and the importance of his philanthropic gift.
