Warwick hosts the British Ambassador to Italy and the Republic of San Marino, Edward Llewellyn at the Warwick Venice Centre.
On the evening of the 11th November 2024 the British Ambassador to Italy and the Republic of San Marino, Edward Llewellyn, visited the Warwick Venice Centre at Palazzo Giustianian Lolin. The event was co-organised by the Circolo Italo-Britannico of Venice and the Warwick Venice Centre, and it attracted an audience of more than 60 people, including several Warwick history and history/politics students.
Dr Llewellyn was British Ambassador to France from November 2016 to August 2021. Before joining the Embassy, he was the Downing Street Chief of Staff to former Prime Minister David Cameron (2010 to 2016) and his Chief of Staff as Leader of the Opposition (2005 to 2010). In 2016, he was appointed Lord Llewellyn and became a member of the House of Lords.
The Ambassador first gave a speech on the role and achievements of the G7 meetings in past and current international politics, explaining their complex structure of general and ministerial talks. He then received many questions from the audience, stressing the long tradition of excellent diplomatic relations between the British and Italian governments, and the strong cultural connections between the two countries. The evening ended with more informal talks during a drinks reception in the main rooms of the Warwick Venice Centre.
