The University of Warwick goes for gold as the Best University for Gamers

The University of Warwick offers a range of state-of-the-art gaming facilities on campus, including dedicated gaming rooms, high-performance gaming PCs, and a variety of gaming consoles. In addition, the university has several active gaming societies, including the Warwick Esports Society, which competes at a national level in a variety of games such as League of Legends, Overwatch, and Rocket League.

Esports at Warwick is part of a broader gaming ecosystem in the region, with the aptly named ‘Silicon Spa’ games cluster of Warwickshire being the largest group of games development companies in the UK outside of London.

The area plays host to a number of major computer games studios such as Sega, Ubisoft, Playground, and Codemasters, with the sector accounting for thousands of jobs in the West Midlands.

Elenore Li is the Esports Centre Coordinator at the Esports Centre, she said: "We are delighted that our efforts have been recognised, and we look forward to continuing to provide opportunities for students to engage with gaming both on and off campus.

"We have worked hard to create a supportive environment for our gaming community at Warwick. Our team of dedicated students and staff work tirelessly to provide a supportive and inclusive environment where gamers can come together, compete, and socialise”.

The University of Warwick is one of the UK's leading research universities, with a global reputation for excellence in teaching and research across a range of disciplines. With this new recognition, the university is also leading the way in providing outstanding opportunities for students to pursue their interests in gaming.

The research took the number of discord members, Twitter following, Active Players and Total associated gamers. Warwick came out on top with 4,282, followed by University College London with 3,544.

Bolstering the University of Warwick esports programme, it became the first UK university to be nominated for the Collegiate award, among an otherwise all-American shortlist.
