Subject:First years on campus

Dear first years,

I hope you're all keeping well. This email is directly for first years living on campus.

We're so sorry we're in lockdown again and you're unable to move about freely. We can't imagine how difficult it is with the library closed, and we've unfortunately had to suspend the campus walks Roxanne was leading because of the high transmission rates of covid. As soon as these rates go down, we'll request permission from the University to start these walks again.

Until then, we'd like to put those of you living on campus in touch with each other in case you'd like to pair up and meet outside for a socially distanced walk or exercise. The current rules allow you to exercise (go for a walk) with one other person from a different household. Due to data protection rules (GDPR), we can't find out who is on campus at the moment, or who would like to pair up with other students. However, you can tell us directly if you're interested by writing back to this email (or to emma.mason@warwick.ac.uk) telling me that you give me permission to share your name and email address with others who might like to pair up for a walk on campus. I will only share your name and email with other first years from the English department currently living on campus, and with Jen Baker as Director of Undergraduate Studies for First Years, and Roxanne Douglas, who organized the communal walks last term.

If you do write back and then later decide you no longer want to take part in paired walks you can just email me again and withdraw. There's no pressure at all - we just want to find ways to connect you until the world opens up again.

Do let me know if you have any questions and take care.

Best wishes,

Emma
