Trennbare Verben

Trennbar oder untrennbar?

Separable verbs are verbs which consist of two parts:

a basic verb (infinitive), plus a prefix.

In English, separable verbs are never joined together and can have other words between them:

I pick you up from the station.

We go out in the evenings.

In German, they are sometimes separated and sometimes together:

Der Zug kommt um 8Uhr an. (present tense, separated)

Der Zug muss um 8Uhr ankommen. (present tense with modal verb "muss", joined together)

Der Zug ist um 8Uhr angekommen. (perfect tense, joined together)
