Student Experiences
The Language Centre takes pride in creating inclusive curricula, pedagogies and communities. Hear what our students have to say about learning, studying and making new friends at the Language Centre.
Our teaching team believes in the principle of students as partners and co-producers. We always see learning as a mutual process, and we value our students’ views, perspectives, ideas, competencies, as well as the cultural and individual contexts they bring to our classes.
The language teachers at the University are absolutely fantastic. They’re very kind and patient, and it makes such a daunting process as learning a language seem really easy and familiar.

I studied Arabic on an accelerated course, which means that after one year I effectively did two years’ worth of studying, and this has set me up really well. I’ve continued that this year and next year I’ll go on my year abroad and I’ll be going to Jordan, which should be really good fun.

Studying Chinese at the University of Warwick’s Language Centre has been one of the highlights of my university experience. Having taken Chinese 3 in my second year, I am now studying Chinese 4 in my final year, and I have found it to be a well-balanced supplement to my EPAIS degree. Additionally, having spent my early childhood living in China, I am grateful for the opportunity to return to learning Chinese in a structured academic setting.

My love for Korean culture inspired me to take the Beginners accelerated class in my second year of university, with little to no previous experience in learning the Korean language. The Beginners level lessons focus on teaching you from the basics: learning how to read and write the alphabet and delving into creating sentences whilst expanding your vocabulary. This beginners accelerated course created an initial understanding of the grammar rules of the language, setting an outline for further studies in Korean. With the support of Dr Yoosun Ko, the classroom environment has been welcoming and supportive from the get go and I found my fondness for the language growing exponentially.

Having studied German at A-Level I came to Warwick with the intention to learn German to a higher standard during my degree. As such, I chose to partake in German 5, and it has been incredibly rewarding. The teachers are engaging, helpful, and knowledgeable, and have made my experience incredibly enjoyable.
