New Book. 'The Dynamics of Learning in Early Modern Italy: Arts and Medicine at the University of Bologna'
David Lines is pleased to announce the recent publication of his monograph on teaching and learning in early modern Bologna (Harvard University Press, 2023). The book examines both the context and content of teaching in arts and medicine: the humanities, philosophy and science, mathematics and astronomy, medicine, and theology, arguing for curricular flexibility and innovation between 1400 and 1750. British School at Rome scholarship for Mathilde Alain
Mathilde has been awarded the Society for Renaissance Studies-British School at Rome scholarship, and will conduct her research in Rome from April - June 2023. She says that she will "dedicate this time to the study of 5 Italian manuscripts containing Francisco Alvares' travel account which is kept at the Vatican Library and the Biblioteca Palatina (Parma)." Her PhD project is entitled: 'Francisco Alvares's travel account to Ethiopia (1520–26): the Italian manuscripts.'
