Gillian Cross has won great acclaim for her children's books - in 1990 Wolf won the Carnegie Medal, and in 1992 The Great Elephant Chase won the Smarties Prize and the Whitbread Children's Award. One of her most popular books The Demon Headmaster has been serialised on radio and adapted as a play.
