The goal of the Summer School is to provide training to contribute to research that brings quantitative sophistication to theory-driven questions in the social sciences.
The sheer amount of raw data available to researchers today presents great opportunities for researchers in the social sciences, but brings its own set of challenges, both theoretical and empirical. The Summer School highlights some of the tools employed to overcome such challenges. The first day is devoted to data mining from social media outlets using natural language processing techniques. The second and third days are devoted to the applications of network theory, which are increasingly used in the social sciences.
