Overseas Institutional Visit (OIV) – Selim Elbadri

Selim is on the Economics pathway at the University of Nottingham. For their OIV Selim visited the Department of Economics at Washington University in St. Louis, USA for 12 weeks.

During their time at Washington University, they upgraded their technical skills by sitting-in on 2 PhD-level courses in Economics. The first was ECON501 which offered a comprehensive overview of the frontier discrete-time models used for macroeconomic analysis. The second course was ECON572 which focused exclusively on continuous time methods.

Selim benefitted from a lively research environment, where student presentations and seminars by top economists in the profession were held on a regular basis.

As part of the weekly macro brown bags, Selim was able to present the second chapter of their dissertation, giving them an invaluable opportunity to receive feedback from different PhD students and faculty members. They also attended talks at the Federal Reserve in St. Louis.

And finally, they were able to develop a network of like-minded economists.
