MGS is pleased to announce that our third residential has been booked at Cumberland Lodge, Tuesday 27th - Friday 30th May 2025.

The core aim of the residential is to provide a focussed and supportive space for writing. Attendees should come with preparations made for a sustained period of writing. Two developmental workshops related to writing will also be offered. A full programme will be released soon.

Registrations of interest will open in February and spaces will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The registration of interest form will close if it reaches the submission limit, which includes a waitlist.

While on the Residential attendees are representatives of the Midlands Graduate School and their respective institutions. Anyone deemed to have behaved in a way which breaches institutional codes of conduct will be asked to leave immediately.

We will be holding a short online pre-departure briefing in May. This will be recorded for anyone unable to attend.

Who can attend?

To attend the residential, you must be:

• an MGS student in the PhD phase of your award.
• still within your funded period on the dates of the residential.
• available for the entire duration of the residential.
• not on a Leave of Absence for the period of the residential.

What will be covered?

• All meals will be covered, from lunch on 27th May to lunch on 30th May.
• Accommodation is provided on the basis of 2 people sharing a room. We have 23 rooms available. If there is somebody in particular with whom you would like to share a room, please confirm this on your registration of interest form, or email esrcdtp@warwick.ac.uk.
• We have a very limited number of single-occupancy rooms available and these will be allocated to students who have a particular need which you will have space to outline in the application.

Travel

• MGS will organise travel down to Cumberland Lodge by coach from the Midlands on the morning of 27th May. The exact departure point will be confirmed closer to the time but is likely to be either Birmingham or Nottingham. There will also be a return coach to the same point.
• Continuing from last year, we will also offer reimbursement for those travelling by carpool. You will see a number of questions related to this on the registration form and we will be in touch to confirm arrangements closer to the residential.
