Thesis Title: How can we train teachers to facilitate effective parental engagement?
Parental engagement is consistently linked to improved pupil outcomes, yet fewer than 10% of teachers in the UK have received training in this area (Education Endowment Foundation, 2018). Part one of this thesis is a large-scale systematic review of previously attempts to improve teachers' parental engagement knowledge, skills and attitudes. Part two is a detailed, large-scale survey of UK teachers' current knowledge, skills and attitudes in relation to parental engagement. We expect to produce policy-relevant findings to inform the development of effective parental engagement training for teachers in future.
