Thesis title: Telling China's Story Well: The role of "non-state" actors
This research focuses on China and the role of non-state actors in shaping its international image. Traditionally, China studies has predominantly adopted a state-centric approach, emphasising the role of the government and Party institutions in image projection and reception. Additionally, scholars have often argued that China’s political system allows little space for independent non-state actors. However, in recent years, the official push to "Tell China’s Story Well" and the expansion of digital platforms have meant that voices from non-state actors are increasingly being heard. This research provides insights into how these voices present China and its culture and how these "stories" are understood, perceived, and interact with "stories" from outside its borders.
Biography
My research interests lie in the politics and power of discourse and how these discourses influence perceptions and self-ideation. I have a MA in International Relations and BSc in Psychology.
