Thesis Title: Disasters, Innovation and Firm Dynamics in Developing Countries
Given intimate links with climate change, the frequency of natural disasters is set to rise in the years ahead. While there is a growing consensus among economists that these disasters have a lasting impact on productivity and growth, the micro-foundations of this relationship are yet to be formally examined. The purpose of my research is to explore the effects of natural disasters on firm dynamics in developing countries with an emphasis on innovation, firm size distribution and aggregate productivity.
