Provision of Training
The training is tailored to the needs of the student and the research project and will be agreed upon together with the student.
Progression Monitoring and Management
I have an open-door policy and I will most likely interact with the student daily to discuss experiments and project progression. In addition, we have meetings with other research groups from the department that will help to identify new and interesting experimental approaches and solve problems early on.
Communication
Communication is an important aspect of science and I encourage my students to openly discuss project ideas, problems and new directions with me and other team members.
PhD Students can expect scheduled meetings with me:
In a group meeting
At least once per week
In year 1 of PhD Study
At least once per week
In year 2 of PhD Study

In year 3 of PhD Study
At least once per month
These one on one meetings will be face to face, and I am usually contactable for an instant response on every working day.
Working Pattern
The timing of work in my lab is flexible and can be tailored to meet the needs of the student and the project (except attending pre-arranged meetings and when instruments are booked).
Notice Period for Feedback
I need at least 1 week’s notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5000 words.
