Provision of Training
I prefer to take responsibility for your technical training at first, leading to more independence later. Your technical training will also be supervised by my other more experienced PhD students.
Progression Monitoring and Management
We will define goals together in a regular basis and meet regularly to help you move along and to try tackle any problems that you might be facing. I do have high expectations but will help you to push yourself to your full potential. I am also very personable and always here for advice, scientific or otherwise.
Communication
I usually communicate with my students by email but they also have my personal number and can reach me in WhatsApp if they need to. I am flexible in terms of frequency and timings of 1 to 1 meetings, but expect you to take the lead on those meetings. I am always happy to discuss any issues (work or personal) that may impact your ability to achieve your goals during your PhD.
PhD Students can expect scheduled meetings with me:
In a group meeting
At least once per fortnight
In year 1 of PhD study
At least once per week
In year 2 of PhD study
At least once per fortnight
In year 3 of PhD study
At least once per fortnight
Meetings will be face to face, and I am usually contactable for an instant response on every working day.
Working Pattern
Certain tasks in my lab need to occur at set times, and students need to be able to commit to a rota/timetable shared with other members of the team.
Notice Period for Feedback
I need at least 2 week’s notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5000 words.
