In three words or phrases: I am supportive, goal-driven and collaborative.
Provision of Training
You will receive training first-hand from myself and other lab members. As you gain confidence you will be more independent and develop/adapt your own methodologies.
Progression Monitoring and Management
I always aim to push my students to their full potential, therefore I am actively involved in their project supervision but also their career development. My students have achieved national and international awards including Vice Chancellors awards, the highly commended PhD student of the year at the national post grad awards (2021), high impact publications and fellowships.
Communication
I am more than happy to be approached (email/phone/in-person) about any issues impacting work. I am keen to see development in various aspects of your professional life, so I am happy to be contacted about career development aspects too.
PhD Students can expect scheduled meetings with me:
In a group meeting

In year 1 of PhD study

Working Patterns
Work in my lab requires being present on site (be it in a laboratory or at a field site) during the core hours of 9-5 (or a subset if working part time). However dependent on the phase of the project and student needs, I am happy for flexible working arrangements.
Notice Period for Feedback
I need at least 2 weeks' notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5000 words.
