Provision of Training

I prefer to take responsibility for your technical training at first, leading to more independence later.

Progression Monitoring and Management

I will set out my expectations of your progression on a weekly/monthly basis. If these progression criteria are not met we will always discuss a plan of action together.

I am happy to discuss any issues that are impacting your ability to fulfil your potential or my/our expectations.

PhD Students can expect scheduled meetings with me:

These meetings will be mainly face to face, and I am usually contactable for an instant response (if required) on every working day.

Working Patterns

The timing of work in my lab is flexible, and (other than attending pre-arranged meetings), I expect students to manage their own time. But, specially in year 1, when student is being taught techniques, it is expected that the student will be in the lab during the core hours so experiments can be shown to her/him or if in need of help with machines, this help can be provided by myself or senior people in the lab.

Notice Period for Feedback

This will depend on commitment with teaching and other deadlines. There will be times that 1 week notice is ok, other times two weeks notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5000 words.
