In three words or phrases: My aim is to foster a diverse and inclusive lab environment where students feel supported and collaborative with other group members. We hold regular lab meetings and lab social events. The lab has an ethos of helping each other and working hard, whilst also maintaining work-life balance and mutual respect.
Provision of Training
Your training will be supervised by a mixture of me, your wider supervisory team, and experienced postdocs/PhD students within the lab.
Progression Monitoring and Management
I will set out my expectations of your progression weekly or bi-weekly. You will also be required to fill out monthly GRS2 forms online, where you can keep track of your progress across the month, and I will provide short comments. If these progression criteria are not met, we will always discuss a plan of action together.
Communication
Work-life balance is very important. I may email at odd hours, but I would not expect you to do the same or to reply outside of core working hours, which are Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. The lab holds weekly lab meetings where everyone can come together to exchange ideas and present new data.
Meetings
PhD Students can expect scheduled meetings with me at least once per week. These meetings will be a mixture of face-to-face and via video chat or telephone. I am usually contactable for an instant response 3 or 4 days per week.
Working Pattern
Certain tasks in my lab need to occur at set times, and students need to be able to commit to a rota/timetable shared with other members of the team.
Notice Period for Feedback
I need at least 2 weeks' notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5000 words.
