Provision of Training
I provide structured, hands on training at the onset delivered by me and supported day-to-day by experienced PhD researchers. From the first months you will be expected to increasingly adopt an independent approach.
Progression Monitoring and Management
You will own your progression, with me as your troubleshooting partner. We’ll set weekly/monthly milestones and review evidence of method development or data generation in check-ins; if progress slips, we’ll agree a corrective plan, and I will push you—supportively—to you can achieve your full potential.
Communication
Expect timely communication via email and our WhatsApp group; while I may message at unconventional hours, I do not expect replies outside your normal working pattern. I’m always available to discuss any issues affecting your progress and will support you as best that I can.
Meetings
PhD Students can expect scheduled meetings with me at least once per fortnight. These meetings will be a mixture of face-to-face and via video chat or telephone. I am usually contactable for an instant response on every working day.
Work Patterns
The timing of work in my lab is completely flexible, and (other than attending pre-arranged meetings) I expect students to manage their own time.
Notice Period for Feedback
I need at least 2 weeks' notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5,000 words.
