In three words or phrases: Supportive, open-door, always-interested.
Provision of Training
I will plan the training that I think is required ahead of time but I am always open to your suggestions. I will take responsibility for conducting some of the training myself (I like being in the lab!), otherwise I will direct you towards people who I know from experience will be able to help.
Progression Monitoring and Management
I am available to meet weekly to discuss project progress and set goals. However, I have an open-door policy so you are always welcome to come and speak with me more frequently. I believe in flexibility so after several months we can assess the project management style to see if it is working for both of us.
Communication
I like to keep in regular communication with group members through face-to-face coffee meetings (if possible), Zoom calls and Teams messages, although I would never expect replies outside of the core working hours, to maintain a good work-life balance. Our group Teams channel is used by all members to share ideas, papers and lab updates. I will always make time to provide pastoral support to group members.
PhD Students can expect scheduled meetings with me:
In a group meeting
At least once per fortnight

These meetings will be face to face and I am usually contactable for an instant response (if required) on every working day.

I need at least 2 week’s notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5000 words.
