In three words or phrases: Supportive, organised, collaborative.
Provision of Training
Training provision will be tailored to your individual needs. I would expect that lots of guidance might be needed at first, but that over the course of your PhD you would transition to independence
Progression Monitoring and Management
We would meet at least once a fortnight to check that everything is going well, and work together to set goals for what we would like to be achieved.
Communication
My door would always be open if you needed a chat or had any questions. We also have friendly and supportive research networks in place (such as the Vision Sciences journal club), which are good places to sound out ideas, and meet other researchers within the department.
PhD Students can expect scheduled meetings with me:
In a group meeting
At least once per fortnight
In year 1 of PhD study
At least once per fortnight
In year 2 of PhD study
At least once per fortnight
In year 3 of PhD study
At least once per month
These meetings will be a mixture of face to face, via video chat or telephone, and I am usually contactable for an instant response 3 or 4 days per week.
Work Pattern
Work in my lab requires being present on site (be it in a laboratory or at a field site) usually during the core hours, depending on when participants are scheduled.
Notice Period for Feedback
I need at least 2 weeks' notice to provide feedback on written work of up to 5000 words.
