Dear All,
Please see below for more information on a workshop taking place on Friday 2 Dec at 8:45.
The purpose of this meeting will be to strategise and build collaborations ahead of a BBSRC highlight call next January.
Please pass this on to anyone you know who may be interested in the following:
Invitation to BBSRC "the resistance in agriculture" call workshop, 2 Dec Fri, 8:45am, at SLS Atrium
Dear all,
BBSRC is opening a highlight call on 27 Jan 2017 (deadline in April 2017) for innovative research to understand and address the broad challenges to agriculture of the development and spread of resistance in pests, weeds, parasites or pathogens to chemical agents used for countering them. Both plants and animals are included.
Aim
The aim of this highlight call is to stimulate innovative research to understand and help overcome the development of resistance in weeds, pests, parasites or pathogens by:
· raising the profile amongst the broader research community of the impact of resistance on agriculture and the scientific challenges it presents;
· using scientific approaches to address the practical problems for agriculture of resistance to all kinds of pesticides;
· promoting collaboration between researchers with existing interests in resistance and others with wider relevant expertise in underpinning science;
· stimulating innovative research to understand resistance and inform interventions for enhancing the effectiveness of existing products and optimising the use of new ones;
· focusing on the molecular mechanisms of resistance, its evolutionary drivers and the ecological processes involved in its emergence and spread;
· encouraging generic and comparative (including theoretical and modelling) approaches, and drawing on learning from other systems in which resistance is better understood.
Please see the attached documents for more details. Information is not available on BBSRC website yet.
The document is from the town meeting held on 8 Nov. A couple of people from SLS participated in the event, and we would like to invite any of you who are interested in this call to share the information from the event and have round table discussion on “what project you can form?”, “who you can team up with” and “what does this need?”.
We will meet in the Atrium of SLS, Gibbet Hill on 2 Dec. Grab coffee 08.45, then 09.00 we start the discussion. It will finish by 09.45 so it won’t affect your tutorials.
For those contact point for GRP and research centres (I’ve included WIDER members manually), could you please circulate this information to your members?
Please let me know if you are interested in participating to estimate the number.
Best regards,
Tomo
