Devastating elephantiasis disease facing elimination

Lymphatic filariasis, a disabling parasitic disease which causes elephantiasis, and threatens around one billion people globally could be eliminated more quickly. Deirdre Hollingsworth and colleagues from the NTD Modelling Consortium (www.ntdmodelling.org) have published a modelling study suggesting that if early results on using a recently proposed combination of three particular drugs for mass drug administration, the disease can be prevented or treated rapidly, in a maximum amount of people, using fewer rounds of drugs.
