What do Ricky Ponting and RJD have in common - apart from both coming from Launceston, Tasmania, and both having some small ability at cricket - and modest with it too? Well, we have both retired on a high note. Ponting guided the brave Tassie lads to justified victory in last season's Sheffield Shield - I was Down Under at the time but couldn't get to Bellerieve Oval to watch in person - while RJD won Man-of-the-Match for an unprecedented third time with a solid turn at the bat, some modestly tight bowling and a couple of stellar catches including one at first slip which flicked off the keeper's gloves just enough to enable a diving RJD to get his fingers underneath the ball before it hit the ground (see below). And yes, it hurt. And I had already torn a thigh muscle batting which is why I was lolling about at first slip. Time to hang up the pads.
