Gibson Group: Marta Neves

Biography

Marta received her PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Porto (Portugal) in 2012. Her PhD research project was carried out in collaboration with the University of Oviedo (Spain) and involved the development of miniaturised electrochemical immunosensors for celiac disease diagnosis. Afterwards, she moved to an R&D position in industry and worked on the development of electrochemical-based applications and (bio)sensors at DropSens (Spain). In 2018, Marta returned to academic research and started a Postdoctoral position at REQUIMTE-LAQV (Portugal), where she continued to develop electrochemical-based strategies for food and clinical analytical applications. In September 2020, Marta joined the University of Warwick and GibsonGroup as an Institute of Advanced Study WIRL-COFUND Fellow. Currently, Marta’s research is focused on the study of prostate cancer glycobiology and design of a multiplexed biosensor to overcome limitations of current diagnostic approaches.

Research Interests

Marta is interested in using advanced biosensing technologies at the materials/biology interface to solve clinical and biomedical unmet challenges. Marta’s research has been focused in the development of biosensing approaches with optical or electrochemical signal transduction. Currently, she is exploring glyco-nanotechnology and glycan/lectin affinity interactions for the development of tailored analytical devices.
