Departmental research interests are developing strongly in computational areas.  We are involved in research in Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC), particularly in perfect simulation, and are now investigating application of stochastic geometry and MCMC to large-data-set medical imaging problems.  Ongoing research in systems for expert judgements, using Bayes nets, applies numerical MCMC-like methods to validate fast approximate algrbraic techniques.  Another major programme concerns application of computational algebraic geometry (such as Groebner bases) to statistical theory particularly in experimental design and in dependence structure.  In all these areas we collaborate at research grant level with other departments involved in the Centre.

The following individuals have research programmes which involve a substantial computational component.
