Biography
William received his B.Eng. in Mechanics from University of Mogi das Cruzes, Brazil, and M.Eng. in Automotive Engineering with major in Vehicle Safety. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree with Warwick Manufacturing Group under supervision of Professor Mehrdad Dianati and Professor Paul Jennings.
In parallel with the academic study, William work as Senior System Engineer in a full-time job with the Pre-Development team of Assisted and Automated Driving (AAD) at Jaguar Land Rover. Prior to the current job, he worked at IVECO in Germany for virtual validation of Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) system in Hardware in the Loop Rigs.
My Research
William's research topic revolves around runtime risk assessment of hazardous events associated with candidate manoeuvres to improve risk-awareness of Automated Driving System (ADS) when making tactical decisions (i.e. which manoeuvre to make).
Current approach being explored utilises Bayesian Network (BN) with causal relationship between the variables observed and inferred from detected hazards to estimate the occurrence probability of hazardous event of interest taking place along a candidate manoeuvre. Further investigations will be conducted to expand the coverage of hazardous events beyond collision type and also to consider severity and controllability components of risk.

- Risk quantification
- Risk modelling
- Probabilistic and machine learning models
- Risk-aware decision making
