Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics - Warwick student chapter |
![]() |
Based in Warwick's Mathematics department, our main aim is to organise seminars, workshops and events for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. These talks are presented by academics in applied mathematics as well as people working in industry. This provides a great opportunity for students to informally meet researchers from various disciplines and backgrounds.
Our chapter also provides a link with the international SIAM community allowing members to benefit from the various opportunities offered by SIAM.
Students and postdocs of any department who are interested in Industrial Mathematics and its Applications are encouraged to join the chapter here. Membership is free and members will be eligible for free membership to SIAM.
Events
The most fun thing about my research
In this brief postgraduate afternoon event, PhD students from MOAC, maths and complexity will present what they think is the most fun thing about their work in an informal environment.
The talks will be held at 4pm on Thursday 11th October in D1.07 (the seminar room in the complexity area of the Zeeman building). We'll be heading to the pub afterwards too.
SIAM Careers Day: 19 June 2012
This one day event is aimed at postgraduates and final year undergraduates who wish to learn more about careers in applied and computational mathematics outside academia. Six speakers from various areas of industry and research will give short talks describing their role, the type of mathematics used in their work as well as their general experience as mathematicians working in the "real-world". Lunch and refreshments will be provided. Students wishing to attend are kindly asked to RSVP here preferably before 14 June 2012. The event is organised by the Warwick SIAM chapter with the help and funding of MASDOC.
