Summary:
PERI-Ox is a randomised controlled trial which will investigate the clinical and cost-effectiveness of 3 oxygen interventions given in adults undergoing major abdominal surgery under general anaesthesia. The trial aims to address whether 80% oxygen, 50% oxygen or keeping oxygen saturation (SpO2) ≥94% result in more days alive and out of hospital in the first 90 days after surgery (DAH90). Secondary objectives include which oxygenation strategy results in the lowest incidence of surgical site infections and post-operative pulmonary complications.
