Chemistry with Scientific Writing MSc

The Chemistry with Scientific Writing MSc utilises the very best teaching and research from the Department of Chemistry (graded 5A) and the vast [Photo of a leaf] experience of the Centre for Applied Linguistics.

Communicating science can range from explaining the structure of leaf to a seven year old to reporting the very lastest research to the world via scientific journals.  Both rely not only on subject knowledge but also the ability to effectively communicate often complex scientific theories to others, who quite often, possess limited knowledge regarding your subject.

This MSc programme offers you the prospect to gain new scientific writing skills through the three core modules teaching the use and application of scientific English.  Whilst improving your use of English in the scientific environment you'll be able to obtain advanced scientific training with various science modules on offer from the Department of Chemistry MSc programmes.  The course is designed to improve your scientific English skills (and English Language skills in general) and allow you to get involved in rigourous scientific investigation.

The course aims to give you:

  • Greatly increased English Language skills and their application to communicating science.
  • Advanced training and teaching in a wide range of chemistry-based topics.
  • Research experience through a research-based project based in one of Warwick's first class research groups, answering a real question or addressing a current problem using state-of-the-art equipment.

The course consists of:

  • Three modules on writing scientific articles and reports and effectively communicating these to different audiences.
  • A research project, based in Chemistry, on a wide variety of research topics covered by the Department of Chemistry. A key part of the project will be training in reporting your results.
  • A choice of five modules from the 16 modules on offer from the Department of Chemistry to suit your interests.
