The organisation of cell membranes in complex. Super resolution microscopy experiments have revealed heterogenous structure mediated by proteins, lipids and the cytoskeleton. My project mainly utilises single particle tracking (SPT) data (from Eggeling, Cairo, Kukura labs) which allows for the direct observation of the 2D diffusion of particles within the membrane. However, the short, stochastic nature of these trajectories means that robust statistical interpretation is required.

Hidden Markov Model Approach

We are building multiple (hidden Markov) models for the 2D diffusion of particles in the membrane, and MCMC algorithms for their inference.
