Andrew Walker

Overview

Andrew is currently studying for an MSc in Systems Biology at the University of Warwick, following obtaining a 2i from the University of Leeds earlier this year. His undergraduate course consisted of modules from a range of fields of Biology including ecology, cellular biology, physiology, and genetics, but with a later focus on the application of statistical methodology to large datasets. His final year project saught to identify and explain patterns in the incidence rates of nematode infections in a wild rabbit population. It utilised a long-term dataset and investigated the roles of various biotic and abiotic factors on the dynamics of infection.

He has recently undertaken a short work experience placement with the Regional Epidemiology Unit of the Health Protection Agency in Birmingham. This involved completion of a range of tasks, from data analysis to public relations, and taught him much about the workings of the agency.

After completion of the Masters Andrew will begin a DPhil project at the University of Oxford under Professor Sunetra Gupta, titled "Analysis of stage-specific immunity in malarial and other Apicomplexan parasites".
