Will Macnair
I am currently pursuing a masters in Systems Biology at the University of Warwick. For my undergraduate degree I obtained a first in maths from Cambridge University, specialising in the third and fourth years in advanced probability, including markov chains and poisson processes. Since my graduating, I worked for a consultancy in London for seven years and have experience in writing reports suitable for publication, delivering them on time, and project management.
I am finding the change to systems biology very exciting, and look forward to studying the field in more depth.
Background
I graduated from Cambridge in mathematics in 2004, obtaining a first in the first three years and a merit in the fourth year (Part III). I specialised in probability, covering markov chains, poisson processes and stochastic calculus. I also tutored first year undergraduates in probability.
After graduating I worked for seven years for SDG, a highly regarded independent transport consultancy in London. Over this period I took responsibility for project management of a range of projects and gained in-depth experience in writing reports, developing models and working with clients.
Research interests
I have only recently started the masters course and therefore am still exploring what specific areas I would like to work in. However, I find Bayesian clustering techniques very interesting, and would like to understand gene regulatory networks in more depth.
