Custom Programmes in the UK

Below are just some examples of successful programmes that have been developed for companies with bases in the UK.

UTC Aerospace Systems Leadership Development Programme

utas_blue_rgb.png

WMG was asked by Goodrich Engine Control Systems to further develop and enhance their operational leadership development programme for the engine control area of their business. This involved delivery in both the UK and US and subsequent expansion of the programme to also cover the Actuation Systems part of the business. Since Goodrich’s takeover by UTC, WMG has continued to work in partnership with the organisation to develop and deliver the programme in a highly changing and dynamic environment.

The UTC Aerospace Systems Operational Leadership Development Programme now leads to a Postgraduate Award in Business Leadership, with employees completing modules in Financial Analysis and Control Systems, Leading Performance and Creating Change Capability, as well as a company based project. UTC understands the value in forging a strategic relationship with educational institutions and recognises the opportunity to help strategically combat the various demographic and skills shifts that the business will face in the future.

Our people differentiate us from the competition and give us competitive advantage in the market place. Investing in our people through development programmes such as the partnership with WMG is critical to our future success. WMG’s applied academic training is directly relevant to our business needs and allows for immediate application of newly acquired knowledge and skills throughout our business.”

Dale Ballinger, General Manager Secondary Flight Control Systems (for the Actuation Systems business within UTC Aerospace Systems)

Manufacturing Awareness

Lloyds 2016 MIM

We are working with Lloyds Banking Group to deliver the Manufacturing Awareness programme for Relationship Managers in the banking group’s manufacturing section. Developed by WMG and Lloyds, with the support of industry bodies the MTA (Manufacturing Technologies Association) and the EEF, the scheme allows Relationship Managers to better understand the needs and processes of manufacturing companies and how those companies are affected by decisions that banks make.

The competitive advantage being achieved by this new professionalism will not only benefit Lloyds, but will also be shared by their customers. The programme includes site visits and case studies as well as supporting theory delivered in the classroom over a one week period.

The programme has also been invaluable to Made in the Midlands, the organisation which exists to support and promote the interests of the manufacturing and engineering community in the Midlands, They have been better able to understand the needs of theri members and improve the services which they are able to provide as a result.

When we were looking to invest in our team of manufacturing focused bank managers to provide them with valuable sector insight and understanding we found the ideal partner in WMG. They have been instrumental in delivering a first class training programme which has been extremely beneficial in helping our bank managers become recognised as trusted advisors in the local manufacturing communities. Our managers have found the training comprehensive, demanding and rewarding, and delivered highly professionally in a top-notch environment."

Technical Accreditation Scheme

jlrlogo_hires1.png

As a key partner in Jaguar Land Rover’s Learning Academy, WMG leads on delivery of the Technical Accreditation Scheme (TAS) for Jaguar Land Rover employees working within the fields of future vehicle technologies and virtual engineering. Working alongside the Universities of Cranfield, Loughborough, and Coventry, we have developed a unique portfolio of taught postgraduate courses tailored to the needs of this global company.

TAS is fully endorsed by the Royal Academy of Engineering, and accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

The scheme allows employees to mix and match a variety of Master’s level modules according to their needs within the business, as well as their individual and professional development needs. Assessment is through a post-module assignment and credits can be put towards a number of qualifications, ranging from a Postgraduate Award to a Master’s degree.

We are now delivering the same modules to JLR staff in India, examined and accredited in the same way as in the UK.

The development of our engineers is business critical to Jaguar Land Rover, ensuring continued innovation and technical excellence in the delivery of premium cars and all-terrain vehicles. The Technical Accreditation Scheme is our innovative and progressive approach to skills growth, making the most of the excellence of our university partners in delivering cutting edge education.

Major Project Management Programme

WMG assisted in the successful development and delivery of a customised 'Major Project Management' MSc for Thales. Modules were designed and delivered in conjunction with two other Universities (Durham and Newcastle) and covered the four main project management themes identified by Thales as critical to the success of their contracts; Business Management, People Management and Leadership, Complexity and Risk and Technical Integration. WMG provided the modules on Project and Programme Management.

Project Management Programme

WMG worked closely with Airbus UK to identify required competences for effective project management in the Airbus environment. WMG then ran workshops with senior executives to identify current performance gaps against the competence model, and designed and piloted a programme with modules in: Project Establishment and Environment, Project Execution and Control, Business Benefit and Learning Review

More than 600 Airbus engineers and managers attended the programme over a period of eight years. Having taught such a critical mass of their UK engineering community, the programme became key to achieving cultural change in Airbus (UK).

When Airbus moved to an International project management course for all four nationalities in the Airbus family, WMG contributed to the course design and piloted and proved the new programme for Airbus at their Headquarters in Toulouse.
