My Research

The working title of my research project is:

"Development of High Value Human Machine Interface Concepts Using a Vehicle Simulator and User Focused Approach"

Concentrating on configurable displays, the problem is to determine what information should be available, and where it should be displayed to enable the optimum user experience, without increasing driver distraction and associated safety risks.

The key objectives for the project are:

  • Determine how vehicle feedback and driver information can be tailored to the driving task in order to improve the user experience and reduce environmental impact in the most common driving scenarios

  • Develop a framework for rationalising the display of information within the main driver focused HMI which will improve efficiency within the design and manufacture processes

  • Define and test design rules for the communication of information within reconfigurable instrument clusters
